Ladies Who Lunch

by hungryyogini on March 12, 2009

Jenna and I had a fabulous time at Grassroots! It was really great to catch up with her over delicious, healthy food. It’s actually in a rather scary area of town but you would never guess from the food and atmosphere. It was so cute! And the music was wonderful.

Jenna recommended “The Original Sabrina’s Favorite Sandwich”, which is their raw onion “bread” with hummus, avocado, sprouts, “sheeze” (which is apparently some type of cashew mixture) and lettuce. They call this their “signature raw sandwich.”

I thought I died and went to raw food heaven! This was the best sandwich I have ever had in my entire life. VeggieGirl, this would SO have been your place. This deserves 1o Holy YUM’s!

Jenna and I couldn’t resist sharing a piece of the Vegan Key Lime Cheesecake.

Seriously the best dessert I have ever had in my entire life. We both wanted to run right out and pick up a raw cookbook. This is the type of food I want to be making after culinary school! I could totally picture myself LOVING that! Who wouldn’t want a personal chef to make them healthy, delicious, fresh food and teach them yoga!!!? We had a lovely time and are already anxious to go back.

After my lunch date I headed on over to get my hair done. Ashley did a great job! She gave me some highlights and also trimmed it up a bit even though I got it cut last week. She just gave it some body and, well, made me look my age rather than like a little girl! I got to hear about her experience training with Shiva Rea which was really exciting since that is what I want to do. She was a lot of fun to talk to.

Oh and before I went I picked up a Kombucha…it’s an addiction my friends.

Hope you are having a fabulous Thursday!

OMG I wish I had a restaurant like that near me! I went to school in Ithaca, NY and there were SO many awesome places like that, so now I feel deprived. Love that vegan dessert :)

Cute little restaurant. Funny play on the word “Grass Roots.” Where is this place located? And OMG your sandwich looks spectacular! I’d be on that thing in like a second! Haha. It has all of my favorite things. I love that it’s raw (fresh). Never heard of the “sheeze” before, but it sounds interesting. Keylime Cheesecake! (?) 10 HOLY YUMS!

How did I not know about culinary school? I’m in the slow lane, clearly. That looks like a delicate, delicious lunch! Haha I’ve only had one Kombucha, but I totally think I’d have an addiction if there was any place in Athens that carried them. Have a great evening!

Your sandwich looks so yummy! And don’t even get me started on the key lime cheesecake…

12 Jennifer March 12, 2009 at 3:56 pm

Now I am seriously craving some vegan key lime pie! But, really it was delicious? Any idea what ingredients were used? I am clueless about baking without milk, eggs and the usual baking products.

28 jenna March 13, 2009 at 12:22 pm

:) I sooooooo wish I lived in Tampa to eat at that yummy place with you and Jenna! Looks like you all had such a great time!!

Do you like Kombucha? Fitnessista reviewed that it didn’t taste very good? I can’t find them anywhere in this small town I call home! :(

29 Ashlei December 16, 2009 at 1:19 pm

You’re making me drool over that food :P I moved from Tampa only a couple months ago to Johnson City, TN (no raw/vegan restaurants! boo!) and that was one of my all-time favorite places. The owners of Grass Root would always come over and talk to my mom and I when we went. I’d love to go back to have that sandwhich – it was one of my faves!
