Tea, Pray, Love.

by hungryyogini on March 19, 2009

Good Morning! It’s the day before Friday folks…Can you believe it? I woke up bright and early at 6:40 this morning. No alarm. Just woke up! I passed out last night around 11:00 after some extremely satisfying garbage television, reruns of The Real Housewives of NYC.  For some reason, I just love that show. It was nice to let my brain rot for a couple of hours =) I seriously haven’t watched TV in months! I was enthralled.

Anyway. I woke up to the sound of the tea kettle going off on the stove. Mama was making some of her “special blend tea” from the ayurvedic practitioner she has been working with. I actually woke up thinking that I wanted to start with hot tea but was feeling too lazy to put the kettle on (What? It’s a lot of work!). Lucky for me! I had a mug of  Celestial Seasonings India Spice Chai.

Our sweet friend and fellow yogini Laraine gave this tea to us. It is the same tea that Elizabeth drinks in Eat, Pray, Love, a book that we all adore. Actually, I have read it three times!  The tea was absolutely delicious and is now my favorite. Spicy but with the sweet smell and taste of vanilla. Maybe it will help me channel my inner Elizabeth today. Is that a Balinese medicine man I see out in the distance? Thank you Laraine!

After some blog reading and email checking I hit the kitchen for some oats.

Today I only used 1/3 cup of oats since I haven’t been able to finish them lately. This was the perfect portion especially with 2 tbsp of yummy organic peanut butter. Also in the bowl was 1 whole banana, 1 tsp raw agave nectar, cinnamon, and just shy of 1 tbsp carob chips. A couple of weeks ago Kara from Cook, Eat, Read Sleep left this comment on my post about my love for peanut butter:

“I’m definitely starting to think that I simply use the oats as a delivery device for my nut butter”

And Shelby from La Belle Vegan said:

“Breakfast without nut butter is like life without air. It’s not possible.”

Couldn’t have said it better myself! Oats are definitely just a medium for melted almond or peanut butter.

We have an abundance of very ripe bananas over here too. Banana bread is in my very near future.

A yummy and pretty breakfast!

I love nut butters as well! You should add some PB to your banana bread recipe. I bet it would be great and you could substitute it for some of the oil????

looks like we had very similar nights—i also killed some brain cells watching Real Housewives and then passed out around 11 only to wake up bright and early this morning!

the tofu noodles were SO GOOD!! my whole family loved them (even my dad who usually turns his nose up at the idea of tofu!)

Interesting post about nut butters. That is my food challenge for this week: to add nut butters to my diet. For so long, I have been scared to consume those extra calories and fat but I am trying to fight this. Thanks!

I really need to try your AB recipe :) I got so many nut butters in the mail yesterday though that I’ll probably hold off until they’re (somewhat) gone! I also have Eat, Pray, Love on audiobook and totally need to actually listen to it!

Eat Pray Love is such a great read! Growth provoking!

A shout out to good ole’ mama for puttin’ that tea kettle on…someone had to do the deed, it can be a difficult job! Hope the tea was tasty.

Happy almost FRIDAY DAY! 8-)

I LOVE the NY Housewives – easy entertainment ;)

Those last two quotes, SO true!

I agree, Real Housewives of NYC is some of my favorite trash TV. Makes me feel very self-righteous as a New Yorker, haha.

Aw glad that you liked my analogy :) Thanks for the shout out!

I LOVE Eat,Pray,Love. I bought it last year and couldn’t put it down once I started reading. It’s such a fantastic book. It made me so happy. It’s been on my “to do list” in the back of my mind to read it again… and again, and again! I could seriously read that book 10 times or more! I’m definitely going to read it again this year to refresh my memory. It was about this time last year that I first read it so it’s about time!

Your oats look super yum. I didn’t used to be a fan of oats, I’d try them now and then but since reading various blogs and seeing the brilliant idea of adding a tablespoon of nut butter I’m addicted! I love, love, love it!! I look forward to my bowl of oats EVERY single day! I usually have them for lunch, mix in some berries or a banana to the oats and top it off with a tablespoon of nice creamy nut butter. Wow. So amazing! I agree completely with the comments about nut butter… I’ve always loved it, when I was younger I almost had to tie myself down to not overindulge on naners with PB. Now that I’ve started eating PB again I’m so in love and notice how many wonderful things PB can be combined with… the possibilities are literally endless!
