Bananas, Muffins and Yogurt…Oh my.

by hungryyogini on March 20, 2009

Happy Friday! I can’t believe it’s already the weekend. In the spirit of the weekend I slept in this morning…until 7:15am. Yes, that is sleeping in for me. I’m kind of liking getting up before the sun is even out. It makes me feel like a get a lot of time out of my day.

I woke up quite hungry this morning and went straight for breakfast. I stood in front of the refrigerator for a good 8 minutes before I finally decided on something. Was it going to be oats? Or yogurt and granola? Or a muffin? Hmm…choices.

I chose door number three…a muffin. Well, I guess some of door number two was in there. A crumbled muffin over yogurt with some banana slices and a little spoon of peanut butter.

It was like a muffin with decadent icing…except healthy! Yum! I also had some chemical laced coffee a la coffee-mate…

…but I won’t tell if you won’t.

A few months back I did an ayurveda and yoga workshop with Kishan Shah. He discussed some general dietary guidelines from an ayurvedic standpoint and mentioned a few food combinations that are a no-no. Well, bananas and yogurt are one of them, especially in the morning or night. Oopsies.

I guess it kind of makes sense. They are both thick substances which cause mucous (ehh, hate that word) to build up and can make digestion difficult which is not how you want to start your day. He suggested starting the day with hot water, then moving on to a breakfast of whole grains and simple protein. No fruit either! He suggested that fruit and yogurt be eaten mid day when your digestion is at it’s peak. I tried this for a while but got pretty bored with it. I’ll drink hot tea sometimes first thing in the morning but that’s about it. I thoroughly enjoyed the banana and yogurt combo this morning despite. YUM!

Anywho, I think I’m going to take Raleigh for a walk and get some school work done before my lunch with Jenna today. I’m excited!

Oh and on another note, I added a new page called Memory Lane. I had been thinking about making a page with some of my favorite posts, as I didn’t want the best stuff to get lost in the archives! After I saw Meghann put up her favorites, I knew it was time to put the page up and share some of mine too.I will continually update the page as the blog grows. Hope you enjoy!

I came across your site after browsing through several other health blogs. I think it’s really inspirational to read blogs like yours since I’ve always struggled with eating right for my body and feel like I’m only starting to know what’s right for me.

My spring break starts next week (yay!) and I was planning on doing a 8 class intro special at my local bikram yoga studio. I’ve NEVER done yoga before and am really nervous/intimidated. I know there’s a lot of different types of yoga…but I was wondering if you had any advice for me? thank you!

Kishan would not approve of my daily breakfast including fruit… especially in the summer when yogurt and fruit is a breakfast staple!

ayurveda diet sounds interesting! what’s the benefit of it? Or is just the right way to eat?!
have fun with Jenna! :D

The banana and yogurt looks delicious! I love you blog — the layout is so cute!

I also hate the word mucous — ACK! gross. I have a hwole list of words I hate — it’s quite extensive ;)

Just wanted to say HI! I’ve read your blog for awhile but had never commented. I just launched a blog of my own, please check it out if you get a chance! ;)

Coco,
An ayurvedic diet is just a wholistic approach to living and eating. I honestly don’t think there is any one way to eat. Actually, Jenna (eat, live, run) and I were just talking about how each person is so different that there really is no one way to eat that is so called “right.”

Oh my gosh, I love sugar free vanilla Coffee Mate, and I was actually going to post about that tonight. The one artificial thing in my diet…can’t a girl have at least one?!? :)

So, I’ve been reading back through your posts…looks like you have been talking about this yoga teacher training for a while. Where I have been? Duh. I thought you were just doing yoga clinics on the weekend. Again, so excited for you. Sounds like the perfect fit!
