Cherry Carob Oats with Barney Butter

by hungryyogini on March 28, 2009

Oh yah, I said it.

-1/2 cup oats

-1 tbsp flax

- cinnamon

- 1 tsp agave nectar

- 1/2 cup thawed frozen cherries

- sprinkle of carob chips

- very generous spoon of Barney Butter

Seriously the best bowl of oats I have had in a long time. The cherries made this bowl very sweet and flavorful. It was like eating carob covered cherries for breakfast.  I love having frozen fruit around for smoothies, yogurt and oats. Fruit from the freezer still has all the healthy benefits of fresh, sometimes even more since it is picked and frozen when it is in season and perfectly ripe. It’s also less expensive which is great for those of us on a budget. And by those of us…I mean me!

I decided to be extra generous with the BB today. Why, you ask? Well today, my sorority is going out to Lake Swan Camp, a local day camp for kids, to volunteer from 10am- 3pm. Apparently we are in for some hard core manual labor. Hey, it’s for the kid’s right!?

Now that looks good! Love the generous serving a barney butter… that’s the way it was meant to be eaten!
Good luck with the kids today. If things get desperate, you could always get a yoga class going to calm them down. ;-)

The oats look delish! I’ve been trying to figure out what kind to make this AM for breakfast and am so out of good pantry items!

Have fun with the kiddos today! :)

I use alot of frozen fruit, too. I am still looking forward to fresh blueberries in the summer, though. I don’t really like frozen blueberries for some reason. Maybe this year, I will try to freeze some of the one I buy at the farmers market and see how I like those.

Mmmmm, I made this bowl last weekend. I added pumpkin to mine and the cherry pumpkin combo was great!
