Let’s Get Physical

by hungryyogini on March 28, 2009

If I never raked another leaf again…it would be too soon. We left for Lake Swan at 9:30 this morning, arrived at 10:00, and didn’t stop raking until we left at 3:00! Well, we got a quick lunch break…but this is what they tried to feed me:

YIKES. Not happening. These were my friends plates. They were kind enough to let me snap some photos. I chose not to partake in the camp food. Luckily I came prepared with these snacks:

My oats held me over pretty well this morning and I didn’t have the snacks until about noon. I was RAVENOUS (sore, achy, tired, cranky…the list could go on) by the time we left and ate (and by ate I mean swallowed whole) a random bar I found in my purse:

Around 2:00pm I remembered that I had this little gem waiting for me in my fridge. I instantly perked up when I remembered this. I think it’s what got me through:

Exactly what I needed. I drank about half and am saving the rest for tomorrow =)

After an extremely satisfying shower and a clean pair of comfy clothes, I decided it was time for some real food and made an egg white scramble in the microwave with broccoli, red bell pepper and avocado. I had a raw carrot and some cucumber on the side for some freshness:

I needed something sweet/carby after and had some Newman’s Own Sweet Enough cereal in Vanilla Almond with a cold banana  and Living Harvest vanilla hemp milk:

Don’t judge me…the cereal is in a Styrofoam cup. Not very green of me, I know. I’m ashamed!! I am feeling a bit guilty with my paper product consumption lately. Something to work on. The cereal and banana pushed me over the edge and I am a bit over-full now but whatevs…it was a long day!

I couldn’t help but feel a bit frustrated at the camp today. I wasn’t expecting 5 hours of hard core, physical labor. We literally raked and raked and raked all day. Then we raked some more. Here’s a before and after:

That was taken at our lunch break. There was a whole area to the left of this spot that we raked too. We raked some of the leaves into a “road” and the rest of them were loaded onto a truck and taken over to a pasture in shifts to be burned at a later date. I am DEFINITELY going to be sore tomorrow.

I tried so hard to breathe deep and “bring my yoga” to the situation but no matter how hard I tried, I just couldn’t calm down. We were all exhausted and quite frustrated, as we weren’t expecting to be doing various tasks rather than one very monotonous and physically demanding one. Oh well, at least it was for a good cause!

Pardon my Negative Nancy-ness. It is quite apparent that I need a long Yin yoga session and a good night’s sleep. Off to relax! See you tomorrow!

I remember having to rake as kids and HATING it. My hands would get blisters and my arms and shoulders would be so sore the next day! I sympathize with ya!

I don’t blame you for getting a bit frustrated… you obviously worked dang hard and they sure didn’t repay you with lunch ;-) ! I can bet you were pretty relieved to have your own stock of snacks to rely on. It looks like you guys did some amazing work though!

I hope you don’t wake up too sore tomorrow! Feel free to vent all about it – you deserve it!

Sounds like we both had to struggle through some sorority charity work today!!!! I am so sorry that they had you working for so long!! At least it was for a good cause, and at least you didn’t leave completely burnt!! I should have worn more sunscreen, haha!

Oh I’m so sorry you had such a frustrating day. As you are always so positive, I can see that you were really upset and I think you were probably totally justified. We all have our days when we get like that. You did a lot of good though!!!!

Yikes! That is an insane amount of leaves. I can totally see how you’d be more than a little bit frustrated about it!
