Fage Yogurt; Reviews and a Giveaway!

by hungryyogini on April 6, 2009

So remember last week when I received some yummy Fage products to sample?

IMG_5766

Well, over the weekend I had the pleasure of sampling some of these little gems. Let’s start with the basics.

Fage 2% Yogurt

IMG_5900IMG_5902IMG_5903

This is my all-time favorite yogurt. It’s high protein content (17g) and dose of healthy fat help keep me full for hours as well as provide a great protein source for me on days when I don’t eat meat. This is also the only yogurt that doesn’t hurt my sensitive stomach thanks to it’s short and pure ingredient list. I also love the thick and luscious texture from the straining process rather than the use of pectin which is found in many other Greek yogurts.

My favorite ways to eat it:

The possibilities are endless! It can be used as a sweet treat, or as a savory topping.

Fage with Fruit Preserves

IMG_5860IMG_5861IMG_5862

I was very excited to sample the cherry flavor, as I have been loving cherry everything lately. Upon opening, I found this…

IMG_5866

which turned into this…

and then this…

IMG_5868

I really enjoyed this, although I would consider this more of a treat than an everyday type thing. This obviously has more sugar due to the cherry preserves. It was the perfect amount of preserves to yogurt however, as it was not overwhelmingly sweet or fake-tasting. I enjoyed it with a little bit of homemade granola. I would probably buy this again for the occasional treat.

Fage 0% Yogurt

IMG_5939IMG_5941IMG_5944

I am typically not a fan of fat-free yogurt, but the Fage 0% is really great! It had that same luscious and thick taste as my beloved 2%, but was slightly more tangy. I think I will use 0% again in the future as a substitute for sour cream. I am planning on making enchiladas in the near future and will use this as a topping rather than 2%, as I don’t think I will be able to tell the difference when used as a savory topping.

Here’s some more fun facts about Fage:

About the Company

Over its 82-year history, FAGE® (pronounced “fa-yeh”), the leading dairy company in Greece, has built a reputation for superior product quality through advanced technical expertise and significant investment in sophisticated production facilities.

Through its extensive distribution network, the company sells a wide range of branded dairy products, including yogurt and dairy desserts, milk and milk cream, and cheese, all sold under the FAGE® trademark worldwide.

The company believes that wherever introduced, FAGE Total spurs new interest and will likely displace unhealthy snack options in consumer’s shopping carts unlike other yogurt products. People add FAGE Total to their shopping lists.

Why People Love FAGE Total

There is no other product like FAGE Total on the market. Its unique ingredients list includes only two ingredients, live cultures and milk. Plus, FAGE Total is all-natural, free of additives, preservatives, and sweeteners, and is more filling due to higher quantities of protein than other yogurts on the market.

When people try FAGE Total and experience its thick texture and deliciously creamy taste – they fall in love with it. This passion parlays into incredible brand loyalty and almost fanatical advocacy of FAGE Total yogurt.

Arriving In America

FAGE USA is opening its first North American state of the art production facility in Johnstown Industrial Park, NY. The $85 million, 110,000-square-foot building aims to continue growth of operations and fulfill the ever rising consumer demand for FAGE Total yogurt by loyalists and new converters.

So, now that I have professed my love for all things  Fage, you are probably wondering what’s in it for you, am I right?

My favorite Fage product is either 2% or Fage Total with Honey. I usually add honey to all my yogurts for extra sweetness, but the Fage packaging makes it an extra simple snack to bring to work/class.

2 Diana (Soap & Chocolate) April 7, 2009 at 11:37 am

INCREDIBLE GIVEAWAY! I am a 0% girl myself – the difference in staying power between greek yogurt and regular is really mind-boggling. Thank God for that protein!

I haven’t tried FAGE yet, but I can’t wait! I just started eating greek yogurt (chobani) more frequently, and it is going to replace sour cream in most applications. The FAGE 0% sounds like it will be awesome, and no fat!

11 sofya April 7, 2009 at 1:42 pm

Fage 0% is amazing. I can honestly say that I now look forward to a dish of this as much as I used to look forward to ice cream. And that is no small thing!

I haven’t tried Fage Greek Yogurt, but would love to try some!

22 Leslie April 7, 2009 at 3:37 pm

I’ve not tried Fage, but can’t wait to do so! The 0% as a sub for sour cream is especially exciting– love the tangy but no-fat sour cream just doesn’t do it for me.

Thanks for offering this giveaway!

23 Janet April 7, 2009 at 3:50 pm

I like the honey and the 0% – great contest!

24 Kim April 7, 2009 at 4:03 pm

I am completely addicted to Fage 2% plain… I’ve tried every other Greek yogurt on the market (including some for sale in middle eastern markets) and none of them comes close to that perfect texture and almost cheese-y flavor of Fage. It’s perfect. My favorite way to eat it is with fresh fruit and granola (usually Zoe’s Granola, not surprising since I work there), but it’s also delish with chocolate sauce squeezed over it, on top of black bean soup, or stuffed in to eggplants with Moroccan seasoning, rice, and lentils or ground meat. My mouth is watering at the mere thought!

25 KK @ Running Through Life April 7, 2009 at 4:11 pm

I have never tried Fage but am really really excited to try the 0%. I know my husband would love this stuff as well!

26 deborah April 7, 2009 at 4:18 pm

Mmmmmm. I love Fage 0%. It’s my fave Fage. Though, I recommend removing the clear film before adding your sweetener (Stevia in my case).

27 Livin' It April 7, 2009 at 4:39 pm

My favorite is any Plain Fage. I haven’t really tried any of the flavored ones yet so, right now my favorite is plain.

I love, love, LOVE Fage 0%. It’s in my grocery cart every week. I like to eat it with some smushed-up blackberries for a sweet treat, or substitute it for sour cream.

32 Michelle April 8, 2009 at 3:01 pm

42 Sheri June 2, 2009 at 4:37 pm

LOVE Fage 0% with cereal or fruit!

43 MB Hansen June 16, 2009 at 2:24 pm

I love the FAGE 2% the most — eating it is like eating whipped cream. I put a packet of Truvia sweetener in it and about 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract on a “plain day.” On “fancy” days, I add fresh fruit, like peaches, or raspberries, or strawberries. I also love it with shredded coconut and shopped pineapple. And believe it or not, it’s just terrific with raisins.
My 2-year old nephew eats it with just a smidge of sweetener — he thinks it’s ice cream! and his 4-year old sister has been eating it for years, plain, or just with blueberries. It’s the best yogurt ever.

44 Elizabeth McCord October 28, 2009 at 11:14 pm

I’ve heard so many wonderful things about Fage and can’t wait to try it but can’t seem to find it anywhere. Can anyone help me?. I live in Edwardsville, Illinois.

45 Fran Richheimer January 18, 2010 at 10:07 am

I have been a yogurt user for many years. I decided to try greek yogurt and enjoyed it. When shopping in another store, I couldn’t find the brand that I had tried and they only had Fage. I fell instantly in love. Now it is the only one that I purchase. When I tried the plain 0% I couldn’t believe it. More flavors, please!
YUM YUm!!
