Fage Yogurt; Reviews and a Giveaway!

by hungryyogini on April 6, 2009

So remember last week when I received some yummy Fage products to sample?

IMG_5766

Well, over the weekend I had the pleasure of sampling some of these little gems. Let’s start with the basics.

Fage 2% Yogurt

IMG_5900IMG_5902IMG_5903

This is my all-time favorite yogurt. It’s high protein content (17g) and dose of healthy fat help keep me full for hours as well as provide a great protein source for me on days when I don’t eat meat. This is also the only yogurt that doesn’t hurt my sensitive stomach thanks to it’s short and pure ingredient list. I also love the thick and luscious texture from the straining process rather than the use of pectin which is found in many other Greek yogurts.

My favorite ways to eat it:

IMG_4326 IMG_4287IMG_4533

The possibilities are endless! It can be used as a sweet treat, or as a savory topping.

Fage with Fruit Preserves

IMG_5860IMG_5861IMG_5862

I was very excited to sample the cherry flavor, as I have been loving cherry everything lately. Upon opening, I found this…

IMG_5866

which turned into this…

and then this…

IMG_5868

I really enjoyed this, although I would consider this more of a treat than an everyday type thing. This obviously has more sugar due to the cherry preserves. It was the perfect amount of preserves to yogurt however, as it was not overwhelmingly sweet or fake-tasting. I enjoyed it with a little bit of homemade granola. I would probably buy this again for the occasional treat.

Fage 0% Yogurt

IMG_5939IMG_5941IMG_5944

I am typically not a fan of fat-free yogurt, but the Fage 0% is really great! It had that same luscious and thick taste as my beloved 2%, but was slightly more tangy. I think I will use 0% again in the future as a substitute for sour cream. I am planning on making enchiladas in the near future and will use this as a topping rather than 2%, as I don’t think I will be able to tell the difference when used as a savory topping.

Here’s some more fun facts about Fage:

About the Company

Over its 82-year history, FAGE® (pronounced “fa-yeh”), the leading dairy company in Greece, has built a reputation for superior product quality through advanced technical expertise and significant investment in sophisticated production facilities.

Through its extensive distribution network, the company sells a wide range of branded dairy products, including yogurt and dairy desserts, milk and milk cream, and cheese, all sold under the FAGE® trademark worldwide.

The company believes that wherever introduced, FAGE Total spurs new interest and will likely displace unhealthy snack options in consumer’s shopping carts unlike other yogurt products. People add FAGE Total to their shopping lists.

Why People Love FAGE Total

There is no other product like FAGE Total on the market. Its unique ingredients list includes only two ingredients, live cultures and milk. Plus, FAGE Total is all-natural, free of additives, preservatives, and sweeteners, and is more filling due to higher quantities of protein than other yogurts on the market.

When people try FAGE Total and experience its thick texture and deliciously creamy taste – they fall in love with it. This passion parlays into incredible brand loyalty and almost fanatical advocacy of FAGE Total yogurt.

Arriving In America

FAGE USA is opening its first North American state of the art production facility in Johnstown Industrial Park, NY. The $85 million, 110,000-square-foot building aims to continue growth of operations and fulfill the ever rising consumer demand for FAGE Total yogurt by loyalists and new converters.

So, now that I have professed my love for all things  Fage, you are probably wondering what’s in it for you, am I right?

Yum… I just tried Greek Yogurt for the first time last week, and LOVED it. I’m giving up meat for a month, so I need more ways to get protein, and this is a fantastic choice.

2 kayla April 6, 2009 at 10:46 pm

as much as I adore the strawberry jam ones (seriously the best dessert ever!) my absolute favorite is nonfat plain.

9 Jasmine (Sweet and Fit) April 7, 2009 at 12:08 am

I have only tried the plain 0% fage, but I can’t wait to try the ones with fruit preserves – the cherry looks amazing!

ps – I also just linked back to this giveaway in my last post =) thanks so much for hosting this great giveaway!

10 Caroline April 7, 2009 at 12:31 am

I was a die-hard Fage fan until Chobani sent me some samples…now I am torn! I have never tried any of the Fage flavored varieties, but I really like the 0% plain. If I had to choose though, I’d like to try the plain 2%–just to compare creaminess!

11 Megan Lee April 7, 2009 at 12:32 am

16 jenner April 7, 2009 at 1:59 am

I love love love both the Fage 0% and 2%.. I have never tried any of the fruit flavors though, because I prefer adding my own mix-ins (usually just 1 honey stick and some sliced almonds… yum!) but the cherry looks awwwesome in your pic.

17 melissa April 7, 2009 at 5:39 am

I love 2 tbs of fage 0% w/2tbs of pb2 for a thick healthy calcium and protein filled topping for waffles and toast.

=O <- this is how I feel about this entire post!

I’ve actually NEVER tried Fage before! I don’t really know why. I’ve had all the other brands (Oikos, Chobani, TJ’s, Cabot) but never Fage! However, I didn’t know that a cherry flavor existed!!! I would love to try that flavor, in addition to the rest!!

You’re linked on my blog!

0% with a drizzle of honey and walnuts….eat it almost every day : ) Yum-o.

29 Amy April 7, 2009 at 8:45 am

I love the 0% Fage, because I have to eat FF dairy. I love to mix it with fiber one cereal, which really makes it like a meal… sweet/crunchy/smooth/tangy.
Honestly, I just have a hard time buying it because it is a little too expensive for me.

30 Alison April 7, 2009 at 9:01 am

Oh man, Fage was one of the things I was most excited to try when we got back from being overseas where it was not available. It did not disappoint! I don’t buy it too often now because of the expense, but I jealously guard my 0% when I get it! I would love to try one of the flavors… that cherry concoction looks a-mazing!

31 melissa April 7, 2009 at 9:29 am

i love the peach!!!! that is def by far my favorite!!!!

32 shawna April 7, 2009 at 9:30 am

I hope it’s not too late — I love Fage! I think 2% plain is my favorite, though I do love the cherry kind too.

35 Kristi April 7, 2009 at 9:38 am

WOW! What a great giveaway! I have only tried the 0% Fage and would be crazy excited to win this and excited to try any of them, pick me!!!!

36 Gryta April 7, 2009 at 9:48 am

I tried this over the weekend (quite by accident)- the dog had giardia (Montezuma’s revenge) and it was recommended by the vet that I feed her a tablespoon of yogurt a day. I have hated yogurt in the past but decided to try a spoonful before I gave it to the dog. Wow- was I surprised…the plain 2% was so creamy and lucious I could not believe it was yogurt. I then thought if the plain 2% is that good- I bet the fruit flavors are even better..! The next day I went back to Whole Foods and bought the 2% Peach and Strawberry…and now I am addicted! Also a long time sour cream fan- I put the 2% plain yogurt on a baked potato- and was completely satisfied- and no guilt and minimal fat!! LOVE IT! LOVE IT! LOVE IT! I have already been back to Whole Foods twice to stock up…….

37 Emily April 7, 2009 at 10:07 am

I LOVE Fage! The 0% is my favorite, and I mix it with fruit and PB2 powder for a delicious dessert – mmmmmm!

38 Kristen April 7, 2009 at 10:11 am

I love to mix the Fage 0% with lemon juice for a healthy and tasty salad dressing. I would love to try the fruit blends – they sound like a delicious treat any time of day!

39 Rachel April 7, 2009 at 10:11 am

Unfortunately, I have yet to try it :(
But as soon as I do, it’s going on top of my homemade black bean soup :)

40 Sweetie Pie April 7, 2009 at 10:20 am

I love the plain Fage 0%, and use it in everything from potato salads to bowls of fruit and yogurt. YUM!!

41 Tina April 7, 2009 at 10:31 am

MMM, the cherry is definately my favorite-but I also use the 0% as a sub for sour cream on everything.

42 Amanda April 7, 2009 at 10:44 am

I love fage as a healthy creamy salad dressing!

43 Jen April 7, 2009 at 10:47 am

My fav is the strawberry preserves Fage with some Go Lean sprinkled on top. It’s the best afternoon snack. Thanks!

44 Tyler (Raspberry Runner) April 7, 2009 at 11:01 am

i bought 0% plain fage once, and ending up baking with it, so i didn’t really get to fully experience it. i really want to try your bagel-nut butter-yogurt combo!!

45 Elina April 7, 2009 at 11:06 am

I love the 0% yogurt, but the fruit one is intriguing me as a treat as well. Also, I thought the 2% was much worse for you, but this looks doable. I may have to track it down :)
Great giveaway!

Fage 2% is the best!

47 melissa sue April 7, 2009 at 11:15 am

What is your favorite Fage product? I love Fage 0%–I use it as a sour cream replacement as well as as a mayonnaise replacement in tuna salad and chicken salad (I am still a meat eater, but only fish and fowl!!).

I’d love to try some of the cups with fruit preserves–they don’t have them in my grocery yet!

Thanks for this opportunity!

48 Stacy Asp April 7, 2009 at 11:17 am
