Surprise!!!

by hungryyogini on April 12, 2009

So last night I went out to meet a friend for a dog walk in the neighborhood…or so I thought. My friend Jen lives right around the corner and got suddenly sick with food poisoning on Friday. I offered to help, or do anything I could so yesterday when she called to ask if I would help with her dogs, I didn’t think anything of it. Well, I met our friend Stephen about half way between my house and Jen’s and we strolled around for a while. When we got back near Jen’s house I was like, “Oh, I’ll just stop in and say hi for a minute.” Well, little did I know that a handful of people were waiting inside for a little birthday celebration! Apparently my parents had been planning this with them for quite some time, all without me having any idea. Sneaky Sneaky! It was a really fun time and I’m so thankful to have such sweet people in my life.

We had a delicious spread of food from this little Mediterranean restaurant called Byblos and a cute little cake made out of cup cakes. Just a bunch of cupcakes, but iced to look like one big cake. So cute! There was also White Sangria that I helped make the other day, thinking it was for today’s Easter celebration at our house.

Since my actual 21st birthday isn’t until Wednesday, I’ll just say it probably tastes as good as it looks. Not that I would know…

A few friends gave me some really special gifts that I’m very excited about too:

This is such a neat cookbook! The recipes are sorted by season. There are certain recipes for early and late spring, mid summer, deep winter, etc. I already have my eye on a few recipes to try out. I also got a beautiful Om pendant and some other beautiful yogi gifts. What sweet friends! I’m so thankful.

Anyway, I woke up really early this morning around 6:30 ready to hop on my bike!  I got a really cool gadget from my Aunt, Uncle and cousins as a birthday gift and was so excited to test it out today. It tells you your current speed and distance, and it also tells you the temperature and has an odometer among other things. It’s wired down the break cable and has a sensor down at the wheel. Technology is amazing. I had some yogi shot blocks and hit the road.

I’m a total stats geek, so I was in heaven this morning going over this morning’s stats. My total time was 45ish minutes with a distance of just under 10 miles. My average speed was 13mph and my max speed was 18.1mph. It was a really enjoyable ride, as there was no one on the road and the temperature was about 70*. Gorgeous.

I came back hungry for a savory breakfast. Actually, the though of oats wasn’t appealing at all! I may be on to something here…

I made an interesting looking omelet with leftover french un-fries, broccoli, and a Laughing Cow Garlic and Herb cheese wedge.

And that’s that! I’m off to help set up for this afternoon’s Easter festivities. Have a wonderful Sunday!

What a sweet surprise! Happy early bday – 21 is a big one!

The white sangria looks delish… perfect for springtime.

I’m interested in using more seasonal ingredients – they are more flavorful, and it is a more earth-friendly way to eat. I’m looking forward to seeing some of the recipes that you make from that cookbook!

Emmy,
Nope. It’s Byblos in Tampa, FL. I wonder if they are a chain?
