Tonight’s class was really great. Stephanie incorporates a lot of pranayama (breath work) into her classes, which is something I really love. We did kalabati breathing (which is really quick, short exhales through the nose to build heat in the body) as well as lion’s breath, and alternate nostril breathing at various moments in our practice. We ended with some great inversions including forearm balance and handstand, my personal faves. I think my inner childhood gymnast is to blame for that. I just really like to stand on my hands….
Anyway. Before yoga I munched on my all time favorite foods. An apple and almond butter. Maple Cinnamon Almond Butter to be exact.
I was quite hungry when I ate this but for some reason, I felt uncomfortably full after such a light (or so I thought) snack. It just kind of sat there in my belly, which became somewhat uncomfortable during practice. Then I realized that this tends to be a pattern. When I’m stressed, I think my system and digestion shuts down a bit, hence the tummy aches I get as well as other random symptoms. Anyone have any ideas on how to help this? It’s the strangest thing!
After two hours of yoga, I came back home quite exhausted. I wasn’t terribly hungry thanks to my malfunctioning digestive system (so dramatic…) but felt like I should have sometime light. I went for my second favorite food…an omelet. I used two large handfuls of spinach, two egg whites (actually half of one of the yolks slipped in…no biggie), and a Laughing Cow Garlic and Herb cheese wedge (new favorite omelet filling). Here it is pre-fold and melt.
And the final product with salt and peppahhh (and some un pictured ketchup…eww but yum).
Delicious. Looks like I got all of my favorite foods in today; apples (times two), yogurt, salad, CHOCOLATE, and omelets. Just like Polly, I had my very own Thankful Thursday too. Today was a really special day filled with lots of much needed lovin’ from my Mom and others that care about me. I have been emotionally and physically exhausted these past couple of weeks and today helped rejuvenate me and let me know that I can get through these last couple weeks of school. I needed that! I’m very grateful.
Oh and I’m also thankful for this little booger…
That blur in the background is her happy little tail going a thousand miles a minute. Love that pup.
Time for a hot shower, comfy PJ’s and a relaxing night and morning tomorrow. Good night!
Oh, and one more thing…
Check out this bake sale over at I Walk in This World. It’s for a great cause! All proceeds from this bake sale go directly to Beth’s Jimmy Fund Walk Team for the Boston Marathon’s Jimmy Fund Walk. Go take a look!

Looks like you got all of my favorite foods in too! Well, except for hummus, but I’ll let it slide. Have a good night!
Great class, pre-yoga snack, colorful omelet, cute Raleigh… :-)
Lion’s breath is so fun! I hope to be able to get more into breath work with my practice.
Hope your tummy problems work themselves out!
Glad you enjoyed your yoga! I am the same way… I used to be a gymnast and now I love the poses in yoga that remind me of gymnastics like the headstand and wheel. I definitely think gymnastics gave me major flexibility, balance, and stability that I use constantly in my yoga.
Great dinner! Deliciousness all folded up into one yummy omelet!
You’re a great omelet maker! It looks so peeerty and nicely put together. What’s the secret!? Mine always crumble…boo.
I love seeing Raleigh!!!
All the breathing exercises are so intriguing…
Awww such a sweet little pup! Dogs are just the best, aren’t they?!
Ohhh…cute doggy! I love the way you photographed the nut butter. It looks wonderful on that spoon.
I sometimes get that same stomach issue when I’m stressed. Unfortunately I don’t really have a good solution. Perhaps the best thing is to just distract yourself by doing something relaxing – watching a movie, reading a book, etc and hopefully the feeling will go away. Because you’re probably mostly full of butterflies rather than food.
Yay for puppies, yoga, and spinach omelets! And I know what you mean, there is something so comforting about going home, even if it is just for a day or two.
Aww Courtney I just caught up with your birthday dinner! A mango martini sounds like such a fun drink and it looks like you girls all had so much fun!!
And ahh mexican chocolate ice cream has always been a favorite flavor of mine so I’m sure the brownies were just AMAZING!
And your omelet looks so good, ah everything does!! Have a great rest of your bday week! :)
I get tummy aches when stressed too. I just have to push through it =/ Love your almond butter…I must buy some more almonds soon so I can make some more!
