Chocolate for Breakfast

by hungryyogini on April 18, 2009

This morning started bright and early with a 7:00am flow yoga class. We practice for a full 90 minutes doing lots of chest and shoulder openers, pranayama, and ended with chanting the gayatri mantra. I know, I know…chanting. I was a little freaked out the first few times I did it a while back but now I love it. It really sounds so beautiful and calming.

After practice we partnered up to work on adjustments for 20 or so poses and ended with partner savasana. Basically you just help your partner relax with gentle touch and massage. It was so relaxing. We were all ready for a nap after.

I got home around 10:15 am and made breakfast. I munched on a few things throughout the morning (mini clif bar and Maple Cinnamon Almond Butter) but was ready for something more substantial. I made a very un-photogenic sweet potato and kale scramble with extra sharp cheddar and salt and pepper

It wasn’t pretty but it sure was tasty. I of course had to end with something sweet, so I went straight for the Mexican Chocolate Brownies from VeggieGirl.

The time was approximately 10:45am. Don’t judge. Who says you can’t have chocolate for breakfast?

Post breakfast/brunch/lunch, I went for a 30 minute bike ride to enjoy the BEAUTIFUL weather we are having. It is absolutely gorgeous and I knew the rest of my day would be spent inside the studio. I went for a 35 minute ride and reached a max speed of 20.9mph on flat ground. I don’t really know if that’s good or not, but it sounds pretty cool! For you bike riders…what is a good average speed for a ride? Just curious.

I’m about to hop in the shower, put on some fresh yoga clothes, and hit the road for another afternoon of yoga. We are learning about nutrition this afternoon. Obviously I’m pretty pumped.

Hope you are having a wonderful Saturday!

I want to be going to your yoga training. I’m assuming this is teacher training? What type of yoga do you aspire to teach? Where are you studying? I’d like to go and study yoga in some country too and I’d really like to learn and experience chanting in a group to see what it is like. I read the book Eat, Pray, Love and thought it sounded interesting. I know I’d be kind of freaked out the first time I did it though, chanting sounds kind of …weird (for lack of a better word) but I’m sure it’s very soothing, calming and as you said, beautiful, especially if it’s done in a group.

I first discovered the joys of using sweet potato in an omelet at a little organic cafe in St. Augustine, FL. A-MAZING!!!!!!!!!!! But Kale?! I have got to try that! Thanks for the inspiration. Have fun at yoga!

That sweet potato and kale dish looks fabulous! I went to my first yoga class today and really enjoyed it! I don’t know if I want it to be my primary form of exercise, but it’s definitely something I’d like to do more.

I agree, that scramble looks SO amazing! I can’t wait to be home and try out many of your recipes! How do you scramble the eggs when you do this? Oh, and you can bet I will never judge you for eating chocolate before noon! ;)
