There’s HUMMUS Among Us!

by hungryyogini on April 24, 2009

Elissa from Sonny & Joe’s Hummus was kind enough to send me some samples of their goods.

Holy Hummus! Whenever we make/buy/eat hummus at our house, my dad inevitably starts yelling “There’s hummus among us!” Well, there is DEFINITELY hummus among us.  I didn’t know where to begin. When in doubt, go with the spicy stuff….We opened the Hot Enough Hummus and had quite the party with some fresh veggies.

This hummus kick’s Sabra’s BUTT. It was very spicy and  super creamy. We loved it! Thank you Elissa! I can’t wait to make a wrap using it Open-mouthed

The snack fest continued this afternoon. This combo was a winner…

That’s some FAGE 2% with a chopped organic fuji apple and some Kashi Go Lean Crunch dust (from the bottom of the bag) topped with some Barney Butter.

From an Ayurvedic standpoint, fruit and yogurt combined is a no-no. The sugar and dairy create a mucousy mess (EW!)  in your belly that make digestion and nutrient absorption very difficult. But from a taste-bud pleasing standpoint…I’m all about it. I try to avoid fruit and yogurt together in the morning especially (don’t want to start the morning off with bad digestion!) but now that summer is approaching, I know I will be wanting fruit and yogurt for breakfast, despite the hot cereal and simple protein breakfast (like nuts) that Ayurveda suggests. Hey, you can only be so healthy. I plan to eat it anyway, just thought I’d mention that little tidbit of information. Any thoughts?

Dinner was simple…

Just a bed of fresh veggies with leftover Crispy Chicken (link to recipe on my recipes page) that Mom made last night.

I also made some granola as a study break (another benefit of coming home to study…an oven!). I felt much better after playing around in the kitchen!

After much studying, granola making, and a walk with Raleigh, I’m ready to call it a night. My very last Friday night before Summer. WOOO!

Tomorrow morning my Dad, brother and I are driving up to Gainesville (again) to load up the large items from my room (couch, fridge, TV, etc.) so I’m not sure what posting will be like. But I will “see” you soon! Enjoy your Friday night!

Lucky duck with all that hummus! Honestly, the Ayurvedic diet combos cannot be taken too too seriously because everybody’s body is different. I have consulted with them out of curiosity, but I think each one of us is the true decider of what agrees with us and what doesn’t. Has a yogurt and fruit combo ever made you feel BAD? If no, then enjoy it!! :)

Oh wow, that hummus is pure deliciousness.

garlic addiction sounds like my kind of hummus!

I love dads and their funny sayings!

that’s a lot of hummus! that cracks me up that your dad says that – sounds like something my dad would say!

Wow, I’ve never heard of that brand of hummus, and I consider myself quite the expert. Those flavors sound amazing!

That package would be a dream come true!! Hope you enjoy all of your hummus samplings :)

WOW! hello hummus. im jealous of that heavenly quantity of chickpea goodness, but its hard to imagine ANYthing could be better than my one-and-only (aka sabra).

12 Heather April 25, 2009 at 9:11 am

Now THAT’S a lot of hummus! I’ll be interested to find out how long it takes you to polish all of those off! ;)

I’ve never heard that about the difficult digestion with yogurt + fruit. Does that go for any yogurt and fruit mixed? Why do many yogurts come with fruit mixed in then? That’s a little confusing!

YAY! GRANOLA! :D

That hummus looks great! You will have to tell us how some of the other kinds are.

I agree that you can only be so healthy. I love healthy eating, but like you, I can’t deprive myself of some of the things I love just because they may not be as good for you… Ice cream! ;)

And I can’t believe you already made granola, too! You have been a busy little bee since getting home, but I know I will hit the kitchen as soon as I get home. Homemade granola and almond butter are at the top of my list! I hope moving out went well today!

Look at all that hot pepper beautiful creaminess!! Send me some (jk)! Where can I find it?

15 Sally April 25, 2009 at 10:16 pm

I love hummus! All those flavors look really good too. Fruit and yogurt make a really good combo, but too bad they don’t digest well together :(

I’m so glad you loved the hummus! We’ll keep posting new store locations on our site for customers to refer to. Thanks again for reviewing the product. Stay in touch and all the best!

Kind Regards,
