The Best Uncooked Food Ever

by hungryyogini on April 30, 2009

Christie and I had a BLAST at lunch. We went to Grassroots, an all organic vegetarian/vegan/raw restaurant. They have it pretty easy…I mean, they barely even have to cook anything! But seriously the food is delicious.

We wanted to order the “Sabrina’s Favorite Sandwich” (which I got here and here) but the raw onion bread wasn’t quite ready. I was slightly disappointed but it was probably the push I needed to try something new. And I’m glad I did. Look at this lettuce boat-o-love. It was called Marrakesh. Romaine with hummus (bean-less hummus that is. Apparently it’s easier for digestion. Cool!), avocado, cucumber, zucchini, and sprouts with some “rawsome mango dressing” on the side. Holy deliciousness. And the presentation was amazing. I just love beautiful food!

Christie ordered a delightful chick’un sandwich:

The food fest continued at Caliyogurt. What better way to wash down raw, vegan food than with dairy! Am I right or am I right?

We each got raspberry fro-yo as the base. She added blueberries and I added raspberries (they gave me 4…what the heck!?), granola and shredded coconut. I LOVE this place. It’s REAL yogurt, not the sugary fro-yo you get at some other places. Although that stuff is good, it hurts my sensitive tummy. I love this stuff and it loves me back!

We had a really fun time today! I’m so thankful that she got to come spend some time “in my hood” and that we got to go to lunch before we go our separate ways for Summer. She is going to Italy!!! I can’t wait to hear all about it.

After our foodie-fest, Mom and I went to Target and Whole Foods. Gotta love those two places. I got a couple things at WF’s that I’m rather excited about…

Can’t wait to try ‘em out.

It’s absolutely beautiful outside today. My bike ride was lovely this morning (and apparently I was spotted by a reader!). I had an average speed of about 16mph with a max of 20.9. I rode for about 45 minutes. It’s so pretty that I may have to venture our for a walk this afternoon. I intend to enjoy every day of Summer and be outside as much as possible Open-mouthed

Hope you are havin’ a good one. See ya later!

Your lunch looks awesome! I wonder what exactly is in bean-less hummus? Did you eat the Marrakesh like a taco?

I’m in the mood for fro yo now :)

Lauren,
I thought about just picking it up with my hands, but it would have been a mess. It could probably be eaten like a taco though. Probably would be easy to recreate!

I can’t wait to hear your review on that protein powder! I saw it last time and almost bought it but I was a little scared from my last attempt at hemp protein =/

Thanks for showing your and Christie’s lunches and desserts! They look great.. I will have to see if there are any restaurants like that in Orlando. And, you will have to tell us how the AB is! Did you get the protein powder for smoothies?

My hubby and I had an apartment about 1 block from CaliYogurt last summer between tours. We used to walk down there for dessert all the time! SOOOO FLIPPIN’ A-MAZING! I can’t wait to try Grassroots, too. My sister and I keep making plans to go when I visit, but they keep getting cancelled. BOO! I made my husband promise to take me in May as a “moving to FL present”!

YUM! That vegan, raw food looks so so so bossy! I remember reading about you and Jenna going there and raving about how great it was. There is this vegan cafe in the front of my gym that I need to go check out after hearing about how great this raw stuff is! And I think I’m gonna go get some froyo..!
