Cookie Monster

by hungryyogini on June 4, 2009

The adventures in dehydrator “cooking” continued yesterday with a batch of raw chocolate chip cookies using a recipe from Living on Live Food by Alissa Cohen.

After getting the batter on to the tray, I had a hard time putting the “chocolate chips” on because it was just as loose as the cookie batter. The first tray of cookies are more like chocolate chunk, so being the perfectionist that I am, I made a makeshift piping bag out of a plastic baggie and put some real chocolate chips on the second tray.

Hard at work…

And into the dehydrator they went for a good 18 hours! I must say, you have to have lots of patience to make raw food in the dehydrator. I kept checking on these guys every hour hoping they would be done. But that’s the good thing about this raw food thing…you can eat the cookie dough without a worry! And I did…

Naturally, after waiting all night, I had cookies for breakfast!

They were delicious! Very soft and chewy. One of the main ingredients is dried apricots and you can definitely taste them which is great because I love them. And I didn’t feel bad about eating “cookies” for breakfast because all that’s in these are dried fruit and nuts! Yum!

We are having raw pizza at some point today…stay tuned!

Lovely raw cookies! Sounds like using a dehydrator requires planning and patience. The cookies look like they were worth the wait.

I’m so jealous…those look AMAZING!!!

22 gutenmegan June 4, 2009 at 5:50 pm

Whoa, I can’t believe how good those look. They almost look like play food. Cookie pizza or something! Did all the sweetness in these come from fruit or was there another kind of sweetener (agave, sugar, etc)?

23 hungryyogini June 4, 2009 at 6:39 pm

gutenmegan,
It’s all from the fruit! I think the sweetness gets concentrated in the dehydrator. They were VERY sweet!

24 Hangry Pants June 4, 2009 at 7:27 pm

Wow those look completely amazing!!! Excellent job girl!
