I have a beautiful friend. Her name is Christie.
When I started this blog back in January, I was rather…well, embarassed. I mean, what normal person walks around taking pictures of their food and broadcasts it to the internet daily?!? Exactly. Not that many people really get it, know what I mean.
From day one, Christie has been my number one fan, encouraging me and inspiring me to write with confidence and truth.
I have the pleasure of living just a few doors down from Christie. Our schedules this year are hectic, and our time together is limited, but I always look forward to our mornings together at breakfast, and our walks around campus – where we inevitable stress over the little things in life, then comfort each other into knowing everything will be ok!

Over the past week or so, Christie has shared a few “daily devotions” with me at breakfast that have truly touched me, and I want to share them with you too.
“So, it may be, you would run aground and suffer shipwreck, if your divine Captain did not steer you into the depths of affliction where waves of trouble follow each other in quick succession. Some plants die if they have too much sunshine. It may be that you are planted where you get but little, you are put there by the loving Husbandman, because only in that situation will you bring forth fruit unto perfection. Remember this, had any other condition been better for you than the one in which you are, divine love would have put you there.”
“We should never know the music of the harp if the strings were left untouched; nor enjoy the juice of the grape if it were not trodden in the winepress; nor discover the sweet perfume of cinnamon if it were not pressed and beaten; nor feel the warmth of fire if the coals were not utterly consumed. The wisdom and power of the great Workman are discovered by the trials through which his vessels of mercy are permitted to pass. Present afflictions tend also to heighten future joy. There must be shades in the picture to bring out the beauty of the lights.”
Thanks Christie, for all that you do! And Good Luck this weekend ![]()

My friends are my biggest fans too, and I feel so blesssed!
Love this, so beautiful! Thanks for sharing.
I know your schedule seems to be crazy, but if you ever want to grab lunch/ coffee/ go for a walk, let me know! I just moved to Gainesville a couple months ago, and would love to meet up. :) (haha I’m currently unemployed so I have a pretty free schedule).
Tooo sweet! This post made me smile. :)
That is awesome! Aren’t friends great?
It’s really important to have at least one person who understands us. I have one good friend who reads my blog. And really, she’s the only person IRL who knows the blog exists!
Is she a tri delt at UF? My really good friend is as well. They def. know each other then. I am about to start my healthy living blog and I have the same feelings..it’s essential to have support! :)
This post made me smile :)
What a lovely tribute to a dear friend! And inspiration words, per usual.
Katy – Nope, not a tri delt. She’s in my sorority (which will remain nameless for now!)
Lindsey – I’d love that! Email me!
What a sweet friend you have!
I was a little embarrassed about my blog for a while and my friends have definitely helped me get over that by supporting me and even holding me accountable with things like “did you take a picture of that?” Ha ha.
Have a great weekend!
Courtney – this warms my heart . . . a lot of my friends and family don’t get why I love this so much, wish I had a number one fan like yours!
Aw :)
You are very lucky to have a friend like that.
I also am lucky enough to have a friend that supports my blog… and well, everything I do as well.
Friends like that are the best!
Thanks for making me smile today :)
What a great tribute to your dear friend! Thank you for sharing the devotions as well. I can never read enough of those for my heart!
There must be shades in the picture to bring out the beauty of the lights. Loved that.
Christie sounds like a wonderful friend. :)
