A Pair and a Pear

by hungryyogini on October 13, 2009

Happy Tuesday! Let’s talk about pairs. And pears.

In an effort to pinch my pennies, I am making a conscious effort to reduce the amount of money I spend on food, and make some different choices to save some mulah. I’ve been watering my money tree, but nothin’. Enter Plan B.

Last night, as I reached for my very favorite organic honeycrisp apples, I saw a huge display of pears out of the corner of my eye for just $0.88 per pound. Geez, they may as well give ‘em away! I put down my $3.49 per pound (gasp!) apples (which by the way are my very favorite food on the whole entire planet…yes, really!) and I picked a pair of pears (okay, more than two, but it’s just fun to throw pear and pair in a lot…) to enjoy over the week. I forgot how much I liked them until after today’s little taste test.

This little pair is a match made in heaven…

Me likey.

As I perused the store for other steal deals (like $1.00 for a huge bag of broccoli!! Umm…did I just get excited about a broccoli sale?), I couldn’t resist this pair…espresso and chocolate. Together. All in one. Mmmm….

Okay, organic espresso dark chocolate isn’t exactly budget friendly. But I like to live on the edge… Wink

Other pairs that sound really great right about now:

1. Yoga + Some good tunes. Like this one:

2. My room + Air Conditioning.  If only Fall in Florida meant cool temperatures. This would so not be an issue! Gotta love 90* in October!

3. Me + shower. (please see number 2)

Well folks, I’m off. Do you have any favorite pairs? A match made in heaven perhaps? I think I used to like ketchup and potato chips when I was little. And by like I mean love. Yes, I did just admit that. Now it’s your turn! Open-mouthed

Ah why are pears so much cheaper? It’s like the food prices KNOW how much food bloggers rely on honeycrisps in blogland! haha

I bought pears last week for the same reason!

I used to eat peanut butter, mayo and banana on white bread. Sigh.

Favorite pair = peanut butter and chocolate – heaven!!

Apple and Peanut Butter. So good.

Peanut butter and crackers.

Chocolate and peanut butter.

Apple and Almond butter.

Notice a trend here? ;)

I also can’t stop thinking about potatoes and rosemary.

And eggplant, mushrooms soaked in balsamic vinegar, then roasted to perfection.

Damn just drooled on my keyboard. ;)

Favorite pair: pretzels and peanut butter; pb and graham crackers; apples and cottage cheese (fooled ya…bet you were thinking pb again!)

Since you admitted ketchup and potato chips, I’ll admit my old fave: cheez doodles or cheetos (i did not discriminate…I loved them both) with grape jelly. Yep, its out there now. And its still a pretty darn good combo (not that I’ve eaten it recently or anything…=))

Right now my favorite pair is toast and pumpkin butter. I’m also a big fan of oatmeal and sunflower seed butter. Perfect pairs! :)

I’ve been all about that pb&pear combo lately. My campus seems to have run dry of bananas (either that or they’re hiding them from me) so I’ve turned to pears as my morning fruit. So yummy!

Brock sale? Wow…I would get excited too! And your G & B dark choco bar gets me excited of course!

And as a yoga teacher and yogi, can I say I love your blog title. I found you on twittter too :)

Have you ever had chocolate with chili pepper in it? I tried a Scharffenberger bar while I was in San Fran, it was awesome!

And my newly discovered favorite pairing, which is completely unhealthy, is peanut butter and Nutella. Especially if you sprinkle a little bit of cocoa powder in it and mix it all up. And then… eat it with a spoon…

What, it’s midterms?

I just bought some pears too! Only, they were in addition to the Honeycrisp apples because I just can’t say no to these little beauties this time of year. But, you are right. Pears are definitely unrated. Such a nice subtle change sometimes! ;)

Mmmm honey crisps are my absolute favourite too! Especially now as apple season is in high gear!
My favourite pairs would be…
apples + cinnamon
sunflower seed butter + honey
rice milk + carob powder (warmed up)
carrots + hummus
I could go on and on and on….but that would be a little much for just a comment!
We could trade weather…right now it is 4 degrees C (39 degrees F) here in good old Canada! It even snowed this weekend. how lovely.

As much as I love peanut butter with pretty much anything, one of my favorites is just plain raw crunchy peanut butter with raw honey. its an explosion in my mouth. Also raw almonds dipped in raw honey?!

YUM.

Doritos and ketchup. Used to do some major damage with this combo. Now, I’m more of a kale chip and ketchup girl. Yum!

For some reason I really don’t like pears. Something about that gritty texture…
My favorite pair is peanut butter and oatmeal. Something about hot peanut butter is just incredible.

I like this pair: Food blog + hungry yogini! Why because she is funny, enlightening, creative and well it’s just a pair I like :nerd:

I love pears – I just bought two honeycrisp apples for the first time this past weekend, but they were only $2.49 a lb – it definitely won’t become a staple on my grocery list. its so nice to see other bloggers who are conscience of how expensive groceries can be!

23 Lisa October 16, 2009 at 10:27 am

Just found your blog and really enjoying it! My fave pair or triplet? would be steel cut oatmeal, cinnamon, and almond milk!!
