I got scammed on eBay! But first, a story…
So, as you know (or are about to know if you are a new reader!), I’m going to Paris for five months in the Spring. Ahh yes, five glorious months in the City of Light. Five very expensive months. The exchange rates are not in my favor, as 1 Euro is about 1.51 USD, give or take on any given day. As you can see, it’s going to be a pricey adventure.
Rent is very expensive in Paris. I’ll be paying about 750 USD per month for my little 600 sq ft apartment that I am sharing with two other students. Luckily we have a little kitchenette in our place, so I’ll be able to save a bit of money by cooking on my own…but I’m sure the croissants and crepes will be calling my name
I must oblige. Travel will be another expense, as I hope to take weekend trips around Europe while I’m there.
As you can imagine, the cost of living will be a bit more expensive than what I’m used to here in the states. Luckily I have a bit of a savings and some scholarship money to help with some of the cost. I’ve also borrowed a bit of money (eek, hate the l word. Gulp…loan.) and while I hate the thought of debt (especially after the last few years of my upper level Finance courses at school…), I’m okay with it since this program is such a great opportunity.
So what’s a gal to do? Well, shortly after I received the projected budget sheet for the program (and had a heart attack after seeing the grand total…), I started thinking about what I could get rid of and sell. Enter eBay.
I bought this little guy about a week before all of this Paris stuff was even remotely a possibility.
At the time I was working for a little computer company at school (which I left to finish out the semester strong!) and had a bit of extra spending money. I’m a sucker for the latest trends (a flaw I’m working on) and couldn’t help but lust over the coolest phone for T-Mobile. Plus, I was jealous of all of my friends with iPhones…So there.
After debating for a while whether I wanted to spend the money, I bought the phone and regretted it completely just a week later after I realized how much I’d be spending in Paris. So…I decided to sell it on eBay!
Well, some butt head person made an account, came in at the last minute, and bid $560 dollars on the phone just before the auction ended. After they “won” they canceled their account on eBay and disappeared without a trace! The nerve! I was so excited with the thought of an extra $560, but it was just too good to be true. And seriously…who has time to do that!?!? Sheesh.
It was quite the mess earlier today, but luckily the phone now has a happy new Mommy and is on it’s way to meet her. Crisis averted. And I have a little extra mulah to put in my “Pennies for Paris” fund
Looks like I won’t have to go out and turn tricks after all… ![]()
Anyway.
In preparation for my future money-saving-meal-at-home-making adventure in Paris, I put my omelette making skills to the test.
I’m not sure how they’d feel about the fact that I served my omelette on a paper plate. With ketchup. Classy.
Oh, and one last thing… I still love my Gators!

Yikes, sorry about the bad ebay deal, I can’t believe someone would do such a thing!
Ugh… sorry to hear about the ebay disappointment! Sounds like it all worked out in the end, though :).
Your omelet looks delish. I’m sure you’ll be an omelet-making pro after your stay in Paris!
Oh no! Sorry that happened to you! I’ve been scammed once or twice with Ebay and it’s such a rotten thing. Luckily it all worked out though.
You really can’t trust anyone these days. ;(
Ick, I hate internet scammers. I bet it was a 12-year old kid or something.
I was at the Georgia Dome for the championship last night…my heart is still bleeding. But it’s bleeding orange and blue!!
That stinks!
Ebay is so good but sometimes you get ripped off, happened to me once and I was so bummed!
