Mon premiere jour a Paris.

by hungryyogini on January 5, 2010

I’m here!!

After a longggg day and night of traveling, I’m here. Holy cow. Somebody pinch me. Is this foooo real?

My flight went really great – well for the most part. I was really worried about delays but luckily everything went off without a hitch. The only glitch was I had no movie thingy (and I do think that is the technical term) to distract myself. I stared into space – for the whole 7 hours. I think my nerves got the best of me at this point. I didn’t sleep a wink on the flight (okay, maybe just one wink) and am definitely exhausted today.

We arrived in Paris right on time at 10:20am and I hobbled over to baggage claim to collect my things. I wandered around like a lost puppy for a long time looking for a cab, and finally found the line to ride into the city.

First stop – the land lords house. Did I mention she doesn’t speak a lick of English? I understood most of what she said, but had a hard time speaking back to her – mostly because I’m a chicken. I’ve decided the key to this trip is confidence – ya know, like a fake it til you make it kinda thing. I’ll just pretend I speak French until I actually do Wink

That’s my apartment!! If you walk to the end of the street that the balcony is on you can see the Eiffel Tower.

See?

My roommate Rachelle arrived just moments after I did and after we dropped our stuff off we headed out for a little walk to explore and grab a bite to eat.

We were starving when we got there and just went to the first place we saw. The food was not great – in fact, it was quite bad, but we still had a good time.

We are both exhausted from our flight’s to Paris but are waiting until a decent hour to go to bed so we can get back on track. We distracted ourselves on the walk back to our apartment and got home to this…

That’s the  view from our balcony at sunset. Pretty darn amazing.

Well, I’m off to shower for the first time in wayyyy too long and curl up into a cozy bed. And by cozy I mean 26* since our radiator is broken… That’s something to conquer tomorrow!

P.S. I’m still wearing the clothes I left in yesterday…is that wrong!?

Congrats!!! You are going to have such a fabulous time. And I totally think this whole fake it until you make it strategy going to work. You’re going to know way more than you realize very soon. Dig deep and use it! :D

Look at it this way, if nothing else you are building a fantastic resume as a food photographer! :)

Bonjour, ma petite cousin!

I am so jealous, and so excited for you! You’re going to have an awesome time – after all that time taking French classes, you’ll fall right into it.

Have fun and take lots of pictures… I’ll lurk for updates often.

Love,
Susie

CourtBort,
I am soo excited! You are in Paris!!! BUT…so far I hear you’re dirty, chilly, and eating bad food, which I must tell you sounds a little too much like ADPi. Let’s try to improve shall we. Also when I was in Florence I started speaking all kinds of weird french I didn’t know I remembered (not ultra helpful but I think I was just going for something other than English and that’s all I had) so you’re going to do wonderfully with the language I’m sure! I love you!

11 Debbie January 5, 2010 at 4:32 pm

Ma’dame Hungry Yogini – that” fake it til you make it” stuff works sometimes… if you believe it….it will HAPPEN!

What a view…..sleep well…and try not to freeze! Look forward to your adventures.

12 Daria @ Daria Can Cook January 5, 2010 at 4:37 pm

I won’t lie, I’m majorly jealous. ;) In my experience Parisians are very kind to bumbling Americans who butcher their language – everyone helped me out as I tripped over my tongue when I was there.

13 Alyson January 5, 2010 at 4:46 pm

One good quote deserves another…”That some achieve great success, is proof to all, that others can achieve it as well.” -Abraham Linclon To my dear Courtney, here is to your great success! I know you will stand as proof to many!

27 Lele January 5, 2010 at 10:12 pm

Eee you are in my favorite city in the whole world in an adorable apartment!!!! I am so so so so so jealous of you! Please go to lots and lots of patisseries. Because the things there… there is no American equivalent. You can’t even EXPLAIN them!

28 Lindsay January 5, 2010 at 10:22 pm

Sounds like a great location, you will only need to get that radiator fixed, because homes in europe are known for being VERY cold… I am sure that you will figure it out and I am also sure that with time you will find Fabulous restaurants, but be prepared for many course meals as that is the way that they do it!! Have Fun and Good Luck!! :)

29 Heather McD (Heather Eats Almond Butter) January 5, 2010 at 11:03 pm

32 zestycook January 6, 2010 at 7:56 am

33 Shannon | @spagrl January 6, 2010 at 1:01 pm

jalouse! So happy for you…you’ll have a blast! The language will come. One day, you’ll just be talking to someone, and you’ll suddenly realize, I just did all that in French! Best feeling ever! Have so much fun!!

34 Jenny January 6, 2010 at 6:32 pm

Wow glad you made it! Your apartment is seriously great for being that much in the center of the city, I cannot wait to see how everything goes :)

35 Gena (Choosing Raw) January 6, 2010 at 8:08 pm

On my first day in Paris (the summer I lived there) I walked into a bar. Thinking I looked cute, I asked a guy (in French) for a light. Little did I know I had asked him for “a chandelier.”
