What a day.
The morning started bright and early – emphasis on the bright, thank goodness! It was a sun-shiney day in Paris with temps in the mid-40’s, a great change from the rainy, bitter cold days we’ve been having.
My roommates and I met up with our group around 11:30 to take the RER train to Versailles. Now that I think about it, there were several interesting characters on our journey today. A homeless man came up to me after I had just bought a cafe cremé, pointed to me coffee and kept saying “Café! Café!” while shaking his hand. And then there was this guy…
C’était drôle! (It was funny! Or at least that’s what I think I’m saying…)
We got to Versailles after our train and were in awe of what we saw. Here’s a little glimpse…
Très jolie, oui?
It was at about this time in our tour that hunger struck and everyone in the group was so famished that we were unable to absorb any other facts about Versailles. We high-tailed it out of there after several hours of gawking at Château de Versailles, and made our way back home.
My roommates and I were famished since we hadn’t eaten since we left for our day trip. We made our way down to one of the few markets that are actually open on Sundays in Paris and bought a few ingredients to make soup, and a few other staples for the week.
We decided to cook a big pot of soup to share and to just split the tab – a whopping 5 euro…so that’s like 1.75 euro per person! Ohhh yahhh. Well, that doesn’t include the bottle of vin rouge we bought for 2.5 euro. Like I said…staples
We were champs in the kitchen…
It was so great to have a hot, hearty meal. The soup had carrots (the sweetest carrots I’ve ever had!), onion, potatoes, chicken, water (flavored with a bouillon type thingy), and green beans. We ooooooed and awwwweed over the soup – and decided a walk wouldn’t be a bad idea after our nice, big meal.
Oooh, Paris. Je t’adore.
Such a simple evening, but one for the record books for sure.
Gonna call it a night in a few…we have a big week coming up! A tour of Montmartre demain (tomorrow) and a trip to Reims (and rumor has it, a Champagne house!!!) on Thursday with class in between!
A tout a l’heure!

Like, actually. I am SO excited for you right now.
Love the pics of the Eiffel Tower at night! Simply stunning!
I wanted to go to Versailles when I was in Paris but the French were having another strike and the subway wasn’t running. I was so sad… it looks so beautiful!
What an amazing day! The chateau is so gorgeous- haha and the homeless man needed coffee?? :-P It looks like a fantastic adventure.
You are going to look back on this experience one day and be so joyful of it all. Just think you’ll tell your children, “When I was your age, I lived in Paris and made big pots of soup with my roommates because we didn’t have much money but we still ate good!” You are the next Julia Child I am convinced! :)
I just booked a ticket to La Rochelle ;) It’s in March, so hopefully the weather’s nicer!
You said it was funny just right! I tried going to Versailles last year but the entire world was there, it seemed, so all I saw was the outside. :/
But it was not my last trip to Paris! Definitely not! So I will be going back for sure! I’m glad you enjoyed such a beautiful Sunday in Paris.
Oh my goodness! Can you please rename your blog “The Cure for Your Wanderlust”?! Seriously. I’m fuming with jealousy right now :)

Oh my – how beautiful! I have to catch up! How long are you in Paris for??!! Love your blog and the soup looks divine – giving me ideas :)
I love the title of your Blog as well – and have a confession and question…I love to write and was even consider penning one “The Hungry Yogini ” – but BEFORE I even heard of your blog of course!! And it has OF COURSE NOTHING to do with YOU – more on myself and my story (if you’ve read my blog)…would that be weird? I don’t see why it would since it’s just a title and this would happen alot…?And it may not even turn out that way!!
