Falafel Heaven

by hungryyogini on January 25, 2010

I can’t believe how quickly the days go by here. It feels like I just got here yesterday, but it’s already been three weeks! The weekend went by especially fast. Nothing too exciting to speak of on Saturday – just a trip to the laverie (where two load of laundry cost 17 USD! yikes!) and a rainy day spent catching up on some school work.

Sunday was a different story. I woke up at the crack of dawn (finally getting back into my old groove), did a little bit of reading, bundled up, and headed to the Bastille area of town to visit the Marché d’Aligre again with a friend. After surviving the crowds, we made our way over to le Marais,  fresh produce and ferocious appetites in tow.

I read about L’As du Falafel (34, rue des Rosiers; Metro: St-Paul) online in various places and knew today would be a good day to try it out. We had been planning a trip to this area on Sunday all week (really the only area of the city that is open on Sunday’s). We knew we were in the right place when we saw a long line of people and were overcome with the smell of something delicious cooking.

Were were in falafel heaven.

Best 15 minutes and 5 euro ever spent. We enjoyed every bite!

First real weekend in Paris: SUCCESS!

Oh – and thanks to everyone for your suggestions about my camera troubles! Hoping to go bat my eyelashes and fake French at a camera repair shop today or tomorrow Wink

Falafel = heaven! Those fried little balls of chic peas are some of the best things on this earth, not matter what continent you are on. ;)

L’As du Falafel!! I went there when I was in Paris. Sniff sniff, I miss it. Paris AND beautifully fried chickpeas, that is. I am glad to hear you are having such an amazing adventure :)

Yum!
Time sure flies fast sometimes, doesn’t it?
I’ve only been to Strasbourg in France, but if You get the chance to visit, I really recommend :)
PS! I know it’s totally out of topic, but since most of the blogs I read are written by Americans, then it’s so weird and yet pleasant to think that You’re in France, Europe right now. Which is, to say the least, much closer than America, but still quite far to where I live :)

$17 for 2 loads of laundry?!? Oh my gosh, I’d rather just wear dirty clothes and save all my money up for weekend falafels. :)

You know you fit in as a European once you’ve mastered the kabob position- that magical pose where all delicious juicy leaks hit the floor, not you. Good luck at the camera shop- you’ll knock them off their feet!
