To market, to market.

by hungryyogini on February 4, 2010

One of my favorite things to do in Paris is to explore the outdoor markets. On any given day there are several up and running around the city (How could there not be!? There is something like 65 outdoor markets in Paris!) and I’ve been really excited to explore each othef them. I’ve only made it to a few so far – Marché Monge, the one right off of the Metro Iéna, Marché d’Aligre in the Bastille area, and the one right behind my house, Marché Saxe –Bruteuil.

After a one hour yoga session at home this morning, my roommate and I headed to the market right behind our house. I’m always in awe when I go to these markets; the abundance of fresh veggies, the different varieties of cheese, the dried fruits and nuts, and the people – the vendors and market-goers make for some of the best people watching in town.

Of course, there are a few things which surprise me…

Anyone have a good recipe for pig snout? Didn’t think so…

All the fresh markets around here make it fairly impossible to eat unhealthy! Fresh produce is always available, and is fairly inexpensive. Just today I bough four huge pink lady apples for 2.50 euro. Not too shabby! Much less expensive than the supermarkets.

How do you like to do your shopping? Do you have farmer’s markets near you? A big supermarket?

Back home, farmer’s markets are scarce. I’m going to be spoiled rotten by the time I leave on all the fresh produce!

Well, we are off to school and the Centre Pompidou for a visit.

Bonne journee!

Your market pics are GORGEOUS! I love farmers markets. We have a pretty good one near me in DC – all of the food tastes amazing. Only downside is…ours is very pricey!

In my hometown, we have a farmer’s market around our town square that runs from May-November. I absolutely lovely strolling around The Plaza on Saturday morning and picking up fresh fruit ‘n’ veggies.

I am SOO incredibly jealous of you right now! Not only are you in Paris, but you have access to all that gorgeous, fresh produce! Now if only we could get the same thing to happen here over in the US…..

I loved going to the farmers market when I lived in belgium. The market was only once a week and it was basically me shopping with the old folks and the moms but I just love the ambience. I try and go to the farmers market when it’s in season. Enjoy it!

The outdoor markets look awesome. I work at a farmer’s market so I usually don’t have time to shop, but if I can sneak away from my booth for a few minutes, I love to buy produce and bread. It’s so good!

Outdoor markets are fantastic, we have tons of outdoor farms here, we promised ourselves this summer we will spend more time buying local produce! I can’t wait!

gorgeous pictures!

Unfortunately, living in Canada, we can’t make use of farmer’s markets too often. The travel time to one that’s open year round just doesn’t work for our family. But in the summertime, I love farmer’s markets! It is possible to eat unhealthy at some of the ones I’ve been at – fresh breads, baked goods, different meats.

I have to rely on the good ol’ grocery store in the winter. And I still overspend! LOL!

PS – I love your pictures – they’re very artful. Although, the various parts of pig one kind of freaked me out!
