Paris

"Peculiar travel suggestions are dancing lessons from God." -Kurt Vonnegut

This past January, I packed my bags to the brim and hopped on a plane to embark on quite the journey…

I’ll be living in Paris through May 2010 and am taking a full load of courses through the University of Florida’s Honors in Paris program.

I’m taking classes in Modern French Culture, Gender and Globalization, Strategic Communication and Photography, but every moment here – from dining in the many restaurants, to talking with the locals at the many street markets is a learning experience.

Being here as a student has allowed me to see Paris in a unique way. I’m living in the city, not just visiting for a quick vacation. I have time to explore the sites slowly but surely and I am experiencing first hand what French culture is really like every time I step out of my door. The following is a list of some of my favorite spots and experiences thus far in Paris. Lots of walking, lots of looking…and not too much money spent. After all, Je suis étudiant

Markets

There are over 65 markets in Paris, so finding fresh, inexpensive produce on any given day is very easy. One of my favorite things to do in the city is head to a market in the morning, and explore the surrounding area after. If you click here, you can find a detailed list of every market in Paris. Here are a few of my favorites so far….

Marché Monge

Marché d’Aligre

Marché Saxe-Bruteil

Marché President Wilson

Favorite Sites

This list is a work in progress…stay tuned for more of my favorite places to visit in Paris.

I also answered a bunch of questions in this post about what I’m doing here in Paris.
